does anyone have a working link to the EZ scan software. I seem to have little PITA bugs and I might have to re download it . I try to assign a tone to a frequency and it wont hold it , When im on the library page it wont allow me to get to the Set Location page. This having little bugs is affecting the way my scanner is operating. The link whistler used to have doesn't work.

GRE America Inc.

For the PSR800 or the WS1080? The above link is for the PSR800, the link below is for the WS1080:

EZ Scan creates a folder in your "My Documents" folder called "EZ Scan Digital". This is where it stores your current configuration and the latest library files you've downloaded. When you uninstall EZ Scan this folder is not deleted. That is why it still remembers stuff from you previous installation. I'm not sure if this will help with your problem but I'd try to uninstall EZ Scan and then delete this folder before reinstalling again.

I strongly recommend you save a backup of your current configuration before you do this by using the menu selection- File/Save To Archive.

Hope this helps.

EZ-Scan Software Bugs

I have an issue with EZ-Scan (latest Whistler version on Windows XP) for my new WS1080 where my CDAT files keep doubling in size every time I do a simple edit and save the change to Archive. It is getting so large now that it takes many hours to program the scanner. It's out of control.

Has anyone seen this issue? Looking back at all the earlier CDAT file sizes I saved, it started doing that on some early saves, then stopped, and then started doing it again and kept doing it to exponentially expand to this grossly obese unreasonable file size (691.2 MB). I put a lot of work into my custom favorites lists, so I don't really want to start from scratch.

Have you tried to Optimize the data in your scanner? From EZ Scan select the menu "Scanner/SD Card", then select "Optimize Scanner Memory/SD Card". This process will copy the data from your scanner to your hard drive, optimize it (remove a lot of empty unused space) and then copy the data back to your scanner.

All databases require optimization on a regular basis. Whenever you make changes to a database the new information is added and the old information is removed. However the space used by the old information is still there, it's just empty. Optimization is the process of re-writing the database but leaving out all the empty information.

Hope this helps.

Which files are growing like that? If it's a trunked system, you could try using the option on the Talkgroup tab for trunked systems to compress the file.

As far as copying the data to the scanner, it's been recommended that if you have a card reader in your computer, that you should use that to write the data to the scanner's SD card. The USB connection is not very fast.

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried that using a card reader (yes...much faster), but the CDAT file is still a bloated 691,225 kb "zipped" file size, and I also noticed it takes a long time when I turn on the scanner to load my conventional scan lists (I do mostly all conventional scanning from my own created scan lists, not RR database). If I use the software to do just one more simple edit, I will be at 1.38 GB in size. So, I can no longer use the EZ-Scan software to do edits. I'm glad I got most of my programming done, but it sucks that I can no longer edit with the software.

Can someone that actually has seen this problem, or knows what this problem really is, and has a solution, give me some help? I would appreciate it.

Thank you (in advance),

Phil
