I am looking for a linux based Motorola Smart Zone II decoder compatible to RTL-SDR dongles. I have 3 of them. I tried SDRTrunk but it won't do it. I can't run a virtual box it'll be top much on my laptop. Windows has a few but anything that looks like a 'penguin', or linux, doesn't have one but it is widely used format.

I don't want to have to boot into Windows XP which has Unitrunker set-up. Why is Smart Zone II not even touched in linux? I hope I am wrong and haven't found this yet.

SmartZone II is old and being replaced with P25. Not really worth putting in the development effort would be my guess.

That said, I believe Trunk Recorder can do what you need. https://github.com/robotastic/trunk-recorder

I have installed trunk recorder. I do not understand it. I can grasp the creation of a csv file. That's easy. As far as getting both dongles to work and editing a json file is over my head. (Lubuntu 18.04)

I had some trouble when I started playing with trunk recorder. Thankfully, they have a chat / group. I post my problems and there were very good people that got me going. In Fact, I might need help again as since its been fishing season, all sdr has been on hold.

Check out the chat group
