Hi all
Was wondering if our Strathroy monitors can help me a little. I currently live in London, but will be moving to Strathroy. I was wondering what can be heard from Strathroy? Will I still be able to get LFD comms, et? My shack will be up stairs with an antenna mounted next to a window, then later I hope to mount one outside or in the attic. I just have truncked radios, non digital.
Thanks very much for any input.

Hey Thom,

Comms are pretty good here in town, however you will not be able to hear London Fire from here.... not right now at least. Once they migrate over to the EDACS system then life will be good as I can pull that system in no problems at all. Beyond that, I can receive Chatham/Kent fire on their county channel, lots of fire stuff from Lambton county as well as over Stratford way. St. Thomas and Woodstock Police are no problem. I guess it all depends on your antenna and whatever local interference you may have. Fleetnet is a little touch and go in my house using a rubber ducky, but no issue at all with any sort of external antenna. And of course we can still listen to Strathroy Caradoc Police, but those days are severely numbered.

Thanks very much for the info! So you can get Stratford fire no problem, cool!! Is there much action on that local trunk system? I think it has a taxi co, and something else. One other question, is it possible to hear Sarnia Fleetnet? I

Stratford City fire.... no.. at least not with my setup. But some of the county stuff around there I am able to get (on the same frequency Kent County uses... 154.6800 I believe). The trunked system here in town has Sunny's Taxi, and supposedly a lumber company.. but I've never heard it. Sarnia Fleetnet? Kinda sorta. The Ipperwash tower comes in fairly well here and pretty much carries all the same traffic that the Sarnia site does. Lambton & Chatham-Kent EMS is on there, as well as Lambton, Middlesex, Huron, Sebringville and Chatham-Kent OPP (for the most part). I think London West EMS is on there as well. I prefer to monitor the Byron tower myself for London City 1 EMS traffic, as well as Elgin OPP.

I live in the Strathroy area as well and was wondering what is available to listen to. I am new to scanning and have a Uniden Bearcat BC60xlt-1. I bought it to listen to the drivers at michigan speedway, but wanted to dust it off and see what I can hear.

Is there a list of things I can listen to here with that scanner?

Thanks.

Head on over to the database and go to Canada/Ontario/Middlesex County. You shouldn't have any problems listening to Strathroy Police & Fire, as well as Middlesex County fire. You can also enter the OPP and EMS mobile repeater frequencies and likely hear a fair bit of chatter on them as well.

OPP Conventional: Ontario Provincial Police Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference (You will be interested in the 'Fleetnet Area' section, especially the VR01/VR02/VR03 freqs)

EMS Conventional: Ministry of Health Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

Middlesex County: Middlesex County, Ontario (ON) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

Strathroy police seems to have dispatch on 142.335 analogue and the mobiles 143.445 digital judging by casual listening.

The trunked system had Moffet and Powell on the system but I haven't heard them for a long time. Why Suny's Taxi needs to be on a 800 mhz trunked system is beyond me. One channel works fine for the amount of use.

Used to be able to follow the LFD trunked here in Watford (10 mi or so west of Strathroy) but not sure if that's still the case.

Best I can tell, all common PD activity is still on 142.3350 (analog) and the digital traffic on 143.4450 is sporadic here and there. Whether it's Spectrum doing testing or officers shootin' the bull I have no idea.

You could get LFD in Watford? I have an 800mhz yagi here and I can't pull them in reliably at all. I have a Motorola portable that will if I throw it on the yagi but that's about it. I'm looking foreward to them moving to the EDACS system as it booms in loud and clear here.

Whenever 142.335 is in use so is 143.445. They are not in perfect sync as one will start or finish before the other but I wonder if the traffic is the same.

Use a yagi at 60 ft for 800 mhz out of London.
