Hi folks,

I'm travelling to Manhattan this week and want to listen to FDNY and NYPD. Specifically, I will be near the World Trade Center.

I would like to know what information I need for programming my BCD-396T to listen to this groups.

I see a few frequencies on the DB but I was surprised that they're all simplex, not part of a trunking system. I can't help but think I'm missing something.

Does anyone have a FreeScan file for FDNY/NYPD that they could share with me?

Thanks!

FDNY and NYPD day to day operations are on analog conventional frequencies, not a trunked system. The database is accurate.

You may also want to program the NYC UHF DoITT trunked system into the scanner. There are a few talkgroups on that system you may be interested in, but again, the overwhelming majority of activity takes place on the conventional frequencies.

FYI to solve your confusion with that, a major reason for this (besides money) is that many of NYCs freqs are so heavily used and so constantly active that it would be marginally frequency-saving to put it all on a trunked system.

This thread isn't the place for getting into that particular discussion, so I'll PM you my comment on the matter.

Good note for any out of towners, the FDNY Special Events TG's on the UHF DOITT system simulcast firegound ops when an incident goes 2nd alarm or above. Usually Special Event 6, but they have been using 5 also this past week.
