Applauding town's response to Sandy

I think the people of Little Ferry owe all the first responders of our town a very well-deserved thank-you.

On Oct. 29, as superstorm Sandy roared through our town, the Hook and Ladder Hose Company, ambulance corps, police and DPW had our backs.

Because we had no power, the only means of information we had was our battery-operated police scanner. As we listened, like in the old days when all that people had were radios, we were astonished. It seemed to be non-stop, one call after another — a tree down here, a wire smoking there, a utility pole knocked over and people trapped in their home unable to get out.

Great article that describes what the hobby is all about for a lot of us. That is, scanners help us stay informed of what's going in our communities.

Watch: Due to someone in the municipal government reading this article, Little Ferry will become the next of the many towns in NJ that is deciding to switch to encryption or other un-monitorable system (OpenSky, etc);)
