Hello All,

I normally just scan my FL's. Occassionally, i will toggle my FL's off and scan the full db when bored. When reviewing the avoids list with the full db on and all services checked, it is quite long, even without pushing the avoid button at all. Please help me understand this. If i am located in Canada and set my postal code and range to 5miles, will the whole US db be automatically put into my "avoids list" and also whatever sites are outside my range? I've tried setting the range from min to max and also tried inputting a US zipcode but the avoids list is still quite long. I've tried clearing the avoid list but they just come back everytime the full db is loaded.

Is this normal? If so, i can understand the logic and no i don't want to scan anything outside of my range but at the same time, i do not want to miss anything as i've seen local channels in the avoids list as well which leads me to my next question...

If i do not have the DMR upgrade, will all DMR systems be automatically avoided and added to the avoids list?

Thanks,

Yes. The location control function will do the avoids for you if something are outside of the range.

I have seen in the database that it sometimes have a very short range set, like 0,5 miles, and other sites can have the tower position way off and the range set are not enough to cover the area around where the tower actually are positioned. If you increase the range setting in the scanner to 25 miles you will compensate for those errors. Any systems that are too far away will not break squelch and will then not reduce scan speed as those control channels will be scanned at 45ch/s.

No. You will still be listening to the data signal but cannot decode it into voice or control info.

Thanks for confirming Ubbe, that explains it. 👍

I will also try increasing the range to see if those local DMR systems get "unavoided" from the list.

Thanks again!
