A fire at an empty four-plex shut down the north- and south-bound lanes of Hover Street on Monday evening. Flames shooting through the roof of the building at 1007 Hover St. greeted firefighters when they arrived on the scene shortly after 8 p.m. Several units from the Longmont Fire Department arrived and put the fire down quickly, although not before portions of the wet ceiling collapsed onto some of the firefighters battling the blaze on the second floor. No one was injured, according to battalion chief Mike Tabert.
“It looks like it spread from the outside in, but it got into the eaves,” Tabert said, adding that the investigation into the fire’s cause was expected to continue well into the night.
Volunteers from the Longmont Emergency Unit were on hand to divert south-bound traffic east onto 11th Avenue and northbound traffic east onto 10th Avenue.
Hover Street reopened at 10:30 p.m.
