While programming up a DMR radio can seem overwhelming at first, it's not too bad once you get the basics down. I'd suggest downloading a working codeplug and study it. That's what I did. You just need a bit of tunnel vision. Once you understand the basics, it's just a matter of scaling up. At first, narrow your codeplug's scope to one repeater. Pick a few popular talkgroups that you believe may be used on the specific repeater and enter those in to you codeplug. Next, you'll need to know which frequency is used by your local repeater and program those in as channels; one channel for each each talkgroup. The frequency stays the same for those channels for the repeater but the talkgroup and timeslot will vary. Lastly, channels are grouped together in another list and create a zone.
Once you're comfortable performing the above procedures, then you can consider importing contacts and talkgroups. The value of programming on the computer is that you can save everything and test to your heart's content.
