• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I just got a AnyTone AT-D868UV HT and I am looking for a simple guide for setting it up. Most tutorials on making code plugs consist of importing existing code plugs and modifying them. I have my DMR ID number and I have the programming cable and software for the radio. Another thing is, I don't really want to install 100,00+ talk groups as everybody seems to want to do. So with all of that said, I guess you could say that I have my toes in the water but I am ready to go swimming. I would appreciate any help on this.

While programming up a DMR radio can seem overwhelming at first, it's not too bad once you get the basics down. I'd suggest downloading a working codeplug and study it. That's what I did. You just need a bit of tunnel vision. Once you understand the basics, it's just a matter of scaling up. At first, narrow your codeplug's scope to one repeater. Pick a few popular talkgroups that you believe may be used on the specific repeater and enter those in to you codeplug. Next, you'll need to know which frequency is used by your local repeater and program those in as channels; one channel for each each talkgroup. The frequency stays the same for those channels for the repeater but the talkgroup and timeslot will vary. Lastly, channels are grouped together in another list and create a zone.

Once you're comfortable performing the above procedures, then you can consider importing contacts and talkgroups. The value of programming on the computer is that you can save everything and test to your heart's content.

Graywoulf, feel free to ask any questions. I'd be happy to help you learn the ropes.

Take a look in the Amateur Radio: Digital... forum for a number of threads on how to program codeplugs. I answered a number of questions in the past year, including links, that may help. It is a bit easier than repeating all here (especially when typing on a phone).

My standard answer to this question is to "strongly" suggest that new users spend some time reviewing several of the DMR tutorials and videos that can be found online. DMR is vastly different than analog... the concepts are different, the operation is different, the terminology is different and the programming is WAY different. We all like to play with the new toy quickly, but trying to develop your DMR code plug without some background will likely result in irritation and frustration.

Ask me how I know this.

BTW, you got a good radio! Best of luck with it.
