Loud and clear on DMR

I was monitoring the DMR frequency of 448.4250, and I received two gentlemen conversing. One lived in St. Louis, Missouri, and the other lived in Springfield, Missouri. The audio was very crisp and clear. I don't know much about DMR technology, but I couldn't believe I was listening to a conversation from that distance away. I live near Glasgow, Delaware. Can someone enlighten me on the DMR system?

With DMR it depends on how your local repeater is set up. If they have talk groups set up like worldwide you will hear QSO's from people around the world. North America you will hear people from North America and so on. It doesn't matter what frequency you are on. DMR repeaters are linked through the internet so when someone talks on North America EVERY repeater that is linked to the North America talk group will key up.

It was probably a repeater near you which is connected to one of these networks.
