If I use the supplied usb cable I don't have this problem....But using another cable (pwr from Dash cam to it's a long cable?) I get this error "low usb bus voltage".

I want to order a 10 foot cable for plugging in by the bed and any usb with the correct connectors should work, correct? Maybe a 2.4 amp charger?

Here are a bunch of threads on the topic. Could be power source or could be the cable. Either way, scanner is not getting enough power. I prefer the heavier gauge cables.

Yes....seeing some topics but nothing so far with a direct correlation but I will look for heaver gauge.....seems like the tolerance is very low and the supplied current must be close to the minimum that you need...

I wouldn’t think a thicker cable would be the solution because any ten foot cable designed for your need should come with the correct gauge. At that length there may be some drop but I wouldn’t think it would be enough to lower the voltage to a point where it makes a difference. But look for a thicker gauge cable and try it.

I have that issue with a few cables too. I THINK it's that some of the ends just don't fit properly to make a good contact.
If I hold the connector just right, basically making the cable have connact, it works fine. Let it go "loose" and I get the low bus error. Does this all the time with my GPS cable. Drives me nuts.

What are you using the USB cable for? Are you trying to remotely control the scanner using a PC?

I will have to recheck but it may have been when I was trying to just program via Proscan....
Which SDS radio, 100 or 200? You mentioned a dash cam, is this in a vehicle? How was your PC powered at the time... battery or 120v a/c?

You said you think you were trying to program via Proscan... are you sure you are plugged into the proper SDS USB port?

we really need a lot more information on what and how you were doing when you got the low USB voltage warning. @nessnet suggestion on 24agw wire in the cable is a very good idea.

I have both but the error was seen on the 100. Yes, proper port for Proscan....I will try to recreate it later.....

I'm pretty sure it was just a spare USB cable that I was testing. I wanted to make sure I didn't already have one before I ordered another (I want a couple longer USB cables)

Ok.....just tried a cable from my old Tom Tom (same connectors). The RED light came on showing it's charging BUT once I turn on the 100 loads favorites and starts up then I get the error. Tried another cable and same result, scanner boots loads and starts running then.....the error....

No magic to it, either your cable is too small or your power source/supply is insufficient. As has already been explained, don’t have setting turned on for charge while in use as this even further increases current draw.
My "Set Charge While On" is set to disable.....

I use this cable with a 1amp wall charger for my SDS100, haven't had any low voltage messages in the 9 months I've had it

Are you getting the message while trying to program or trying to listen?
Turn on radio, Favorites load, Scanner starts scanning......then error

A conversation may start for a second but basically it errors out seconds after loading and starting up
