Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Lowband Maratrac Speaker Feedback on Transmit

I have a low-band Maratrac programmed for 6 meters (mobile install) that when I transmit I get a bunch of nasty loud feedback from the speaker. I tried transmitting on a couple different simplex frequencies and moved the speaker around inside the car but got the same result. I verified no loose connections between the speaker wire and control head. I do not receive this feedback when I transmit using my high band VHF Maratrac, keeping all things the same other than the radio box. My antenna (an MFJ dual band 2m/6m) SWR was close to 1:1 on both bands.

Needless to say I don't want to use the lowband radio for transmitting with this kind of nasty feedback since something is wrong. Unfortunately it's not much good for receive only since 6 meter FM is pretty much dead in my area. Has anybody encountered this issue or have any troubleshooting ideas? The radio is obviously pretty old but it worked OK the last time I had it installed with all the same hardware last spring. I presume it can't be the speaker since it works fine on the high band radio.

Sounds like you’re getting RF in the speaker. I’m assuming you’re using a duplexer? Try taking the duplexer out and connect directly to the 6 meter radio and see what happens. Start with that. The 6 meter radio may need its own antenna.
