This license was just renewed. It says these 2 freqs are used throughout the state by fire depts. I'm not familiar with them being used in the north east part of the state. What are these for?
Hmm... I've been around scanners, radios, Indyscan, RR, and volunteer services for decades, and have never seen or heard of these frequencies. It makes me wonder who are these "fire depts throughout the state" that use these freqs;.....unless that's an open invitation for anyone to use them. (?)

What the heck is IFERN? 🤣 In the past 30 years I've never heard of such a thing. Those frequencies are not in any EOCs, PSAPs, or fire stations that I've seen.

It stands for the Interagency Fire Emergency Radio Network. IFERN is mainly an Illinois and Wisconsin thing, but was originally called NIFERN (the 'N' and 'I' standing for Northern Illinois) since it was originally used by fire depts in Chicago's north suburbs and northern IL for mutual aid purposes.
