Just got this new BCD996XT and need a few answers.

Is the ARCXT Pro going to work with my Apple Macbook Pro? It is Intel based and I would prefer not to use the Windows XP that is on the partition. If I have no choice I will do it that way.

I love the scanner and my local Sheriff's office programed it with the Arcxt Pro and it is fine. I would like to customize it though and i have the Mac computer.

Thanks as this looks like a great site and the people seem very knowledgeable.

You're going to have to either use Boot Camp or run something like VM Ware Fusion or Parallels to run Windows so you can use the programming software.

Personally I picked up a cheap, old Windows laptop with a serial port to use as my programming (and mobile Unitrunker) computer. You don't need anything powerful and can probably find an old WinXP laptop with a bad battery for peanuts.

Thanks for the reply. I had not thought of the cheap laptop idea.

I do have VM Fusionware with Windows XP on the Macbook pro now. The additional laptop does sound like a good idea though. For the time being I will probably try to install Arcxt Pro on the Macbook .Probably going to need a walk through on the actual programming though.

I use Parallels to run the ARC and ARCXT software with no problems under windows XP with all updates installed. I run all of this on a 3 year old IMAC

Interesting... I don't know if I'm ready for the new OS just for that though.

Hi, BCProgTool.TCL works with either MAC, Windows or Linux. You don't need to install new OS to run it. If you run Snow Leopard the software to run the script is already on your Mac Computer.

If you have Parallels installed you can go ahead and use ARC Pro or FreeScan installed inside Parallels and skip BCProgTool (which you can run without using Parallels if you want).
