Detached garage fire - fully involved with concern for exposure of surrounding houses and garages. (not to mention powerlines on the ground from the fire.

Fire now knocked down and overhaul commencing.

I believe that if there is any chance that the flames will start to come outside the structure, or threaten any other buildings in any way, CFD will call a second alarm. This way they can knock down the flames and provide protection without worries.

Then Rescue 4 and 18 aerial (if #18 has one) , second alarm Engines: 10/18 or 1, 1 aerial, 23 Air/Light, and if command wanted them Rescue 2? (that's if everyone was in station, otherwise there would be some changes)

Engine 1, 1 Pump, 2 Pump, 1 Aerial (was on first alarm call), 2 Bronto, 2 Emerg, 23 Air Light.

That's by memory from this afternoon - Jay could probably provide more info if needed, (he was working afterall :D)

First was 4P 1A 7P 2E. (4E was elsewhere.) Second was 1P EN1 2BRONTO 23AL. 2P decided they had to go because the Bronto was on the job. (When the Bronto first was in the fleet, very few pumpers could supply the oomph needed to supply it, and 2 Pump was one of them. Also the staff on 2 Pump are trained for operating the Bronto.)

Second alarm can be called at any time by the incident command, or, in rare cases, at the discretion of dispatch if the incident seems bad enough (VERY rarely used).

There is a tri-services command vehicle that is available and is operated by Emergency Management (ex Disaster Services) but it is only brought out on long-term or major events (much more major than a "run of the mill" 2 alarm fire). It is built on a Winnebago motor home chassis. I'll grab a photo later on and post it.

Jay....about the same time the tri-services command unit is called, we'll also be on scene with ARES doing communications, spotting, and wireless video.
