All of a sudden this morning my R8600 is powering off after a transmission is rec'd. Anyone else experience this? It will stay on and scan my memory channels then when a transmission breaks squelch it receives that transmission just fine and then when the slight delay is over and it should launch back into scan mode it powers off. Starts up fine, then repeats process. Tried this on known frequency in VFO mode and it did not shut down after it rec'd transmission. I am stumped. Switched power supplys, same thing. Vhf mode is fine. Only happens in Memory Scan, Group Scan and Select Memory Scan. I have been troubleshooting this since 7am with no success. Suggestions?

Hi JD, Sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue. Just to confirm, you are not actively connected to a PC and running any application, e.g. ICOM Remote Utility, etc. i.e. operating in Local Mode.

Shouldn't be relevant though to rule out: 1. All Timers (e.g. sleep, power off) off?; 2. did you perform a Partial Reset (pg. 12-2 Instruction Manual)? 3. If you did 2. and no joy, an "All Reset"?

Please verify which FW version and model (-02 or -04) and reply back. I will observe how my two 8600's behave, both are V1.33.

Look at page 10-2 of the manual maybe timer button was set somehow.
If no luck go to 12-2 of manual try a partial reset .

What I'd do is backup everything to the SD Card and do a Full Reset so you've got a as-new settings/factory default then try replicating the issue. @escortz28 has given a good answer as well.

Thanks for the replies.

escortz - I have -02 version, just updated firmware v1.33

No timers on, nothing set on. Did partial reset and problem still there. Backed up sd card and did full reset and re-programmed 2 memory channels and still powering off after stopping on channel in Memory Scan. Looks like I'll be calling Icom on Monday. See what happens.

Thanks for your help, I think I have done all I can do on my end.

I was not able to replicate (good thing from my perspective). Good luck with Icom, let us know the outcome.

Disturbing to read this as I am considering this receiver. Hoping it’s an isolated incident. Please let us know how it goes with Icom.

Try a new, different, or remove sd card. If the receiver is trying to write to a corrupt file system...

I don't know that it is, just a suggestion.

Well Icom tech ran me thru all of the hoops I had already jumped thru and the sd card corruption was his last suggestion before telling me to send it in. SD card was corrupt, ran to Wallyworld and got new SD card and problem is - fixed! First time ever that an sd card has corrupted on me. He stated (and I have read here before) that when an sd card goes, radios will exhibit a plethora of weird symptoms. I would have never thought an sd card gone wrong could be the problem. Weird. But, happy camper here. We are scanning the bands again :) So glad I did not have to box it up and ship it in.

Nope, Mike. Went thru a lot of scenarios where I might have zapped my card with static electricity taking it in and out of an external reader that I use. Very helpful at Icom, always.
