Under the heading "just in the nick of time of not needing it," I recently added a comprehensive Wiki article on the radio systems of the Mammoth Mountain (MMSA) and June Mountain Ski Areas radio systems. Go to the database for Mono County, click on "businesses," then click on the Wiki tab. I provided information on my latest observations of the trunked system of MMSA, the conventional system of June Mtn. as well as the system for "The Village at Mammoth," located on the north central portion of town. I have unit designator, base identifier, and 10 code information as well. The unique part of the article is a fairly complete glossary of ski area terminology that is heard on the four radio systems of the two ski areas and lodging owned by MMSA. I've been listening to the ski area for nearly 30 years and have sought out explanations for every term I've heard.

The largest change of this last winter is that none of the lodging properties seem to be on the trunked system. So the 3 talkgroups labeled "Channel 12" on the existing database page are not being used by the Mammoth Mountain Inn. Channel 16B is only occasionally heard and is Tamarack Cross Country Ski Area related, but communications for Tamarack Lodge don't seem to be on there. My conjecture is that all lodging has been moved onto the 10 channel UHF system being used by the Village at Mammoth. MMSA's lodging properties include the two condo hotels at the Village, Tamarack Lodge, Mammoth Mountain Inn and the condos/condo hotels at Chair 15, which includes Juniper Springs, Sunstone and Eagle Run Lodges. I can hear the repeaters located at the Village, but can't hear any possible traffic on any new repeaters at the Inn or the simplex traffic at Tamarack, located at Twin Lakes, west of town. I've not been able to drive to these locations and listen, that is a few months down the line in my injury recovery and physical therapy.

This information is a bit esoteric, but for those who ski at Mammoth or June or stay in MMSA's lodging in the summer, the information can be useful. Visitation during the summer in the Mammoth area has been growing steadily for decades, however, in the last 20 use of the condo lodging in town has grown significantly. The total number of visitors in town at one time is higher than it is in the winter and without the boom/bust pattern of weekend/weekday that exists in the winter.

I would like to acknowledge and thank member QDP2012 for the help rendered in formatting this Wiki article. He did it in about 1% of the time that I would have. The method for formatting in the Wiki is cumbersome and extraordinarily difficult to understand. You would think the computer types could invent a way of inserting text from a Word document or some such, something widely used and understood, instead of the gobbledygook method that is in place. I guess that would be too simple though.

Anyhow, QDP2012 stepped up to the plate within an hour or so and formatted the entire thing for me in less than another hour. I would have taken at least a few hours a day over a two week period to have accomplished the same thing.
