If I am scanning, let's say my favorites list, and I hear a call on dispatch and the officer tells another officer, go to channel 4..... is there a way for me to manually click through the channels I have pre programmed easily? Ya know say I was on channel 1 and wanted to click up 3 channels ....or maybe another time I want to click up 5 channels.... how would I do that quickly and easily? The old scanners had a "monitor" then you could manually advance up the pre programmed frequency list that you wanted to choose.

Not as happy with this 536 as I expected. Between the remote access for Android not being out for more than 2 years since it's release and some of the simple features seem to have been eliminated. I wish I had bought the 996 for a lot less money.

Press the white channel button, which holds the radio on current channel, then rotate the knob, which steps you forward and back thru the channels in your favorites list.

I seem to be here doing this quite a bit lately, but I'll keep doing it because I believe it---- and that's offering words of encouragement--- the 536 is the best scanner you can get, bar none. The learning curve for anyone coming from anything other than a Home Patrol scanner is steep and arduous, but the payoff is that you get incredible features that will work to your advantage the more and more you learn and use the radio.

I know the disappointment with the Android app--- I and many others have been all over Uniden about that here for nearly 2 years and we're not quitting. Some programs like ProScan ($50) can nicely fill that gap, although not on an Android, but on a tablet computer.

I have been monitoring communications for close to 60 years, and have had practically every scanner that was ever made. Nothing has ever come close to the 536 (and it's little brother, the 436) in the history of scanning and scanners.

So do not be dismayed--- many of the features and functions on the 536 are someone "nuanced", and it takes a little time to learn all of the features that the radio holds. The manual leaves much to be desired, but as you study the radio close up and use it frequently, little surprises are in store for you, and then perhaps you will understand why I am so enthusiastic about the radio.

You could also use a System/Channel Number tagging method that allow you to quickly navigate to a channel. See the manual beginning on page 57 for a discussion on the specifics.

It has some good filters in it, and has an onboard national database, unlimited unit ID's, and will record. 996p2 does not have those things.

On the other hand, the 996p2 has a display you can read and won't go dim in a year. The 536 has those significant problems, among others.

The list of 536 features is quite extensive--- the best source of information would be to download the 436/536 manual and look at the list of MAIN FEATURES that starts on page 5. While there is some unfinished business that has to be taken care of by Uniden, they essentially threw in everything but the kitchen sink into the x36 series.

those were the answers i was looking for, thanks. the 536 display dimming is a big factor as is the 996 multicolor, nice display. i dont need the home patrol function of a national data base, though the record feature would be nice. i can live without that, however. my choice in the 996p2. thanks for the information.

I like the full database feature so if I'm traveling I do not have a lot of programming to do. Also to program the 996P2 you have to physically connect it to a computer, which is cumbersome if the scanner is mounted in a vehicle. With the 536 all you have to do is remove the SD card and take it to your computer, do the programming and return it back to the scanner.

A lot more data can be put into the 536 - less limitations than with the 996.

I do not have a 996P2, just the older 996XT model. I get a lot clearer decode on simulcast systems with the 536 than I do with the 996XT.

(I'm thinking the 996P2 does do GPS too).

Much expanded memory (not just WRT UIDs), Buttons to hold a System, Department or Channel (not just channel like the 996), Much larger display for longer text tags, an improved Alert Light, Favorite Lists which are like having multiple scanner setups all built-in, no drivers to deal with (they are already in Windows), etc.....
