I read a really long thread about some ruling or the like with frequencies for maritime and I am not sure I understood it all. It seems all of the traffic from the boats/barges on the Mississippi are now in the 2g earphone area? I loaded up all of the maritime frequencies but have not yet scanned them. I just wanted to see if there was any action to hear. Hello to all of you fine folks in Tennessee :D

If you are near a harbor, you should hear much chatter. When I say "near a harbor" you need to have the river and boats in sight. It's all low power except for what you will hear on 16 & 22 (CG). Channels ordered by frequency.

Either channels13 or 67 will be used for tows to make passing agreements. Channel 13 is used in most of USA with Channel 67 used on the parts of the river system. Being in a coastal area I don't know much about the inland rivers, but you should put both in.

Pleasure boating will be active soon with the warmer weather than the non commerical channels will be very active.

With most modern scanners having a service search for marine you should this try out this to find which channels are active in your area.

OP will need all of the channels. They are very very busy near any hotspot along the Mississippi River. Non-stop action, but you need to be really close to the river to hear it. You'll get much colorful conversation, but you need to be line of sight to get both sides of the conversation as much of it is on handhelds. I monitor in a couple different locations, St. Louis and the MO Bootheel and all points in between. My list provided is complete for monitoring analog conversation. A pic I took recently in Armorel, AR, Nucor Yamato, not far from OP:
