Does Massport Fire dispatch runs over the air? I don't get anything on 560. I hear ops on 592 but that's about it.

I listen to them via 453.90. I never seem to hear a formal "dispatch" on 453.90 - just the comms as they respond to an incident. Sometimes they seem to refer to a different talkgroup or channel, but I dont have any further info on that. Peter Sz

Most of the traffic is on 592. At least the traffic after the initial dispatch. Also, listen to the Troop F dispatch TG, as they go on most of what the FD goes on. If it's a medical, a trooper will usually be sent to escort the EMS people in.

You also have to be pretty much on top of the airport to hear the Massport trunked system. My hometown is about 12 miles south as the crow flies and its hopeless from there. Get past the Blue Hills and yea, maybe it comes in a bit but not reliable til 5 miles out in my experience.

True. It's a pretty low powered system designed to cover the airport and immediately surrounding area. I lose it quickly when I get on the highway, although I do pick it up on I93 south just before the Braintree split. That has good elevation, though.

Thanks for the replies. I've been listening pretty closely for the past week and I am pretty much on top pf Logan so I get great reception. It would seem that alarms are not dispatched over the air, which is a shame. It would be nice for Alerts, etc. It seems radio ops are on 592 after dispatch, but dispatch is in-station only, similar to Chicago Fire. Calls go over the air on 592 if units are out of the station. 592 seems to be simulcast on 453.900.

Fortunately, most calls do come over on state pd and Massport ops.

The simulcast on UHF can be just about anything. Most days it's Airport OPS, it's not a full time situation. During Alerts it can be just about anything. I'm right across the water from the airfield and I can hear a control channel most of the time, but I go further south and don't hear much, except when parked at work.

Just to clarify - 99% of the traffic on 453.90 is Logan FD. They might call that the "(Fire) Ops" channel.

I think that "Operations" is a different person than the "Fire Alarm" dispatcher, who is apparently different than the "(Fire) Headquarters" person. "Operations" is apparently a MassPort dispatcher who primarily communicates with the MassPort "Operations" staff. "Fire Alarm" seems to be a MassPort FD dispatcher located at MassPort Fire HQ. "Headquarters" might be the watch desk on the apparatus floor at MassPort Fire HQ.

There are also people in white SUVs known as "Ops XX" etc - they are MassPort administrators / runway checkers / etc. I believe they have a separate talkgroup on the MassPort TRS. They come up on 453.90 once in a while to talk to MassPort Fire personnel.

The 453.95 channel is a bi-directional UHF link to the trunked "Fireground" talkgroup (025h or TT 592), which has been implemented for compatibility with the other District 13 Fire Departments, which have all switched to UHF channels. It is similar in concept to the Cambridge 471.3125 (accesses trunked F1 Dispatch), 482.0375 (accesses conventional F14 fireground) and 482.2875 (accesses conventional F16 fireground). The purpose of the MassPort channel is not to provide dispatches and alerts to third parties, but to enable Mutual Aid companies responding to Logan access to the Logan fireground.
