• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I'm sure this has already been discussed, couldn't find an applicable forum in searching the Google or RR.

I know via Chirp one can export channels to CSV files and use that to largely copy channel lists/configurations between various amateur and a few commercial radios (I think the Kenwood TK-7180 and TK-880 amongst others can be programmed with Chirp). Not the simplest process but better than manually typing in the channels/PL tones every time. I'm only talking analog radios here, I have a crap-ton of various analog Kenwood commercial radios (TK-690s, 790s, 890s, 760G, 880, 860G, 2180), and I have a certain channel config I like to use for each band (low band, VHF, UHF), but my current method is to manually type in new codeplugs for "new" to me radios I get. Sometimes I'm given these radios and sometimes it's a great deal, so I don't have the option (I guess I do, but I'm cheap) of just buying a single radio model like in a fleet. I would prefer to just build one channel list and be able to copy into the various KPG-XX programming software (even over into Motorola CPS if possible).

I realize I have way more radios than just I could use, but I'm slowly outfitting family vehicles with at least UHF radios for GMRS.

It would really be nice to match to Motorola codeplugs as well, I've got a PM400 VHF and a ton of Maxtracs and GM300s rather than manually typing as well. I also realize that these different radios have different channel capacities, but I rarely use up all channels on the newer Kenwoods (128 channels min is more than enough for a single band radio). Maxtracs and the PM400 I do fill up the channels.

Hopefully this makes some sense, just looking for pointers to another thread or any ideas people have. Again, just talking analog channels, not worried about DMR (or other, yet...)

Modern radios like APX and XTL CPS will allow you to export/import from XML and CSV, but ancient stuff that is RSS based like Maxtracs and GM300s are old school manual entry only.
The long answer is no short cut to manual data entry when you have disparate brands of subscriber radios (now you know why shops charge real dollars for programming. It can be a time vampire and time is money).
