• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

If you go to batlabs, you should be able to find the information to build your own cables. All those radios use a serial port that also needs to be used with a RIB.

You will need a slow computer that is running a pure DOS operating system and not under Windows in a command block.

Ok can you show me what a RIB is? where can I get one or make one?

Before you go too much further on your quest for the programming cables, it would be well worth your time to spend a few hours on the site Batwing Laboratories and do some serious reading about the radios you have and how to program them. We can only help to a certain degree. You will need to learn the basics on your own, find a mentor to help you along or find a local ham that will take you under their wing to show you the ropes.

A RIB is a "radio interface box" that translates the voltage levels a computer serial port uses to the voltage levels that the radio uses to be programmed with. You will need the cable to go between the serial port of your computer and the RIB. Then you will need the cable to go between the radio and the RIB. Last but not least, you will need the Motorola software to run on your computer to be able to read the information in the radio, change it and write it back into the radio. This information is commonly called the radio codeplug.

Obtaining the software is going to be your largest problem. Motorola no longer sells the software to go with these older radios. Motorola also takes strong legal action against anyone they find and catch that is pirating their software. They watch the chat groups with great vigor to try and catch people they think are violating their intellectual rights by selling, copying or otherwise obtaining their software other than directly from them. They do have a license procedure to obtain their software and once the license is in place they take great care to make sure it is paid for. They do not give their software away, but make you pay dearly for it. Most of the software for the different radios starts about $250 and goes up from there.

There are a number of sites that have information on different flavors of the Motorola products. I would suggest that you try some Internet searches for some of the information you might be looking for. Then if you still have questions, to come back and ask a detailed question to see what help you can obtain. There are a number of Yahoo groups that have Motorola information that could be of value to you. You will have to join those groups before most of them allow anyone to post a message. There is also a Motorola chat group that you can find the link to on the batlabs site I gave you.

Hope this at least starts you on your way to obtaining the information your looking for. Most of the technical geeks as some call us will be more than willing to help. But you will have to help yourself also along the way. The people will not spoon feed you each step as you go. Your going to have to help learn it yourself to obtain the basics.

You can easily get ribless cables for the Maxtrac/Radius radios.

Try Kawamall, Valley Enterprises, or if you want a bit better non-OEM quality, Polaris. Or, if you want to bend over and fork out the big bucks, you can go with OEM Motorola stuff. I am not going to get into the non-OEM vs. OEM argument. It's like a Ford-Chevy argument.

Good luck.

Which programing software will work Radius Radios?

radmbl dot exe for the M series

P100 dot exe for the P100 and HT50 series

P200 dot exe for the P200 series

gm300 dot exe for the GM300 series

GP300 dot exe for the GP300 and GP350

ALL of these MUST run under a real DOS 6.xx operating system

so anyone know where can I legally obtain the RSS softwear since Motorola no longer sell it?

That's the problem, there is no way to legally obtain it anymore, not even from someone who had a legit copy. /\/\ wants you to buy new radios and new software.

RadioStew's RIBs

I've been using this RIB for years and it works flawlessly. Programming cables can be found from many sites. My last cable was purchased from KAWAMALL and works fine. You will need to find specific cables for each radio.

As others mentioned, the RSS will be the missing link. It should be found through legal means(Motorola), but there are other sources.

Again, it sounds like you're new to radio programming and should research Batlabs to gain some insight before jumping in.

Yes I am new to programing Radios I am a scanner . These Radios are for a Rotary International Humanitarian Mission to the Caribean Island of St Kitts. I have been working with them for over 10 years. These Radios are for there EMS services. They are on VHF frequencies these Radios are to up grade what they are currently using. They have very old equipment that is not very good. They even use modified Ham Radios. I need to be able to reprogram some Radios down there. I have an old Laptop that works fine and can run Dos. There is no Motorola tech on the Island. These will go along way in helping them to continue to save more lives. They also are in need of VHF portables that are programable. This is all on the up and up and I can show all the great work that has been done. This has been a great help. If I can at least get what I have programed up here. The local Motorola shop has done several Radios for me and I am not sure if they would do any more. That is why I have posted on here. I have already emailed the above place about getting a RIB box but have not received a reply. I am trying to purchase the box and cables. I am not the greatest at putting together some thing from a diagram so if I can acquire it I will. We do not have much funds for this so need to do it as cheap as possible. I think I should be able to program these Radios when I am able to get the RIB box and RSS softwear which I am willing to purchase. Please any one able to help me out here it would be a great help for this. I have learned a lot from what people have been responding to me and have been reading.

I would suggest that you do a search for some of the ham radio clubs in your area. The radios your asking about are heavily used by the ham radio community and someone in your area should be able to help you directly.
