• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Can anyone identify this MDC1200? What radio model it comes from? It's on the YouTube Video provided in the link. The MDC1200 is at the 0:34 mark. Thanks for any help!

I could decode a few of the MDC1200 bursts, but not the one at 0:34. You can try yourself if you have an iPhone, there's an app called "Radio ID" that will decode MDC1200, Fleetsync, GEStar and QC2 paging tones.

No way to know what brand radio it comes from. The patent on the MDC1200 protocol expired a few years back, and most public safety radio manufacturers support it. If you want to know what brand radio they are using, you'd probably do better by searching for photos from that department.

Sounds like the remote override tone.

The tone would be sent out over the air because the console or remote keyed while the comparator was dropping its signal to the repeater.

Could be wrong, but that’s what it sounds like to me.

That's the "tone remote" from the dispatcher's wireline console. You're only hearing it because the repeater trail was still activated from the previous unit's transmission. You'll also hear this from the units going through a voted receiver when the trail is still active if those are connected directly to the transmitter via wireline as well.

This tone instructs the repeater to activate the transmitter and what channel to use. The tones are transmitted every time but are usually not heard because they are used to control the transmitter before it's actually opened. You'll only hear it during the repeater trail.

That's the "tone remote" from the dispatcher's wireline console.

Specifically, a short burst of High-Level Guard Tone (HGT) 2175 Hz followed by a burst of 1950 Hz (F1) Function Tone originating from
the dispatch console. The three MDC ID's leading up to the tone remote console tones were: ID-2400, ID-2400, and ID-2365 respectively.

The OPs audio track was captured with Audacity where I fed the MDC ID tone bursts into MDC Tool Console for decoding.
The Dispatch Console tone frequencies were determined using Audacity's Analyze Spectrum function.
