Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello, I am wondering why on some radios with the Siginaling, theres a beep before or after the "chirp"?
does it come from the radio or is it a repeater thing? Just wondering because it sounds cool

Most radios I believe can be set up to beep when the signal is sent before the transmission. The beep just means that the signal was sent and you can speak now. If you are talking about the triple beep, that is a talk permit tone used on trunking radios.

Public Saftey repeater courtecy tone????

Hi, After listening to a fire repeater in my town, I noticed that any time that somebody begins to talk while the repeaters transmitter is still on from the last person talking (tail) there is a two tone noise Beep (High) Beep (low). I also hear this when Disbatch begins to talk.

for when somebody talks right after another person quickly, I hear "Beep Beep, Chirp". I know what the chirp is (MDC1200) but whats the "beep beep"?

Oh, no i know what your talking about. But i mean when you hear the chirp, theres a beep after it like if i were talking you you with motorola two way radios, when i key up you will hear "CHIRP beep". I was listening to my fire departments repeater, and all or the transmissions from trucks you would hear "CHIRP" but once and a while i would hear "CHIRP beep". ???

My guess to the first question is a guard tone. As for the 2nd, Ive heard repeaters do that, but I dont know what it is.

My guess is probably the "ok to talk" tone for the MDC1200 going over the mic of the transmitting radio.

is different than the other post.... i mean the repeater goes beep beep like a disbach tone thing .

ya im pretty sure that its there so that you can distinguish between the first transmissin and the second.

as for the MDC1200 after beep it doesnt have anything to do with this beep beep on the repeater....

Yes, you are hearing the Proceed Tone from the radio through the mic. The beep is not part of the MDC1200 signal.

Whatever is happening there isn't supposed to be happening.

MDC1200 is the squawk, and the beep is the "proceed tone" to tell the radio user that the radio is done sending the signal and is ready for the user to talk. The beep is only supposed to be heard by the radio operator - it is NOT supposed to be sent over the air. There are some radios which will accidentally send part of the end of that tone over the air but I've never heard it like that.

What kind of radio was transmitting that?

I dont know for sure... Probably a Motorola CDM.... That was transmitted at the fire department.
most all of the engines at the fire department that talk on the radio only have the squoak, but some have the squoak beep sound. I know its not the thing that tells you to begin talking because the tone is a tripple beep. you hear the tripple beep yourself and the squakbeep is herd on the air.

I merged this thread and the "Public Safety Repeater Courtesy Tone" thread since they're basically about the same thing.

I agree with KS4VT, it's probably a wireline tone - since the MDC glitch I mentioned is never that bad.

It's not being "sent" over the air. It is being sounded by the speaker and retransmitted by the microphone. It's common on the HT1250's set for the short beep.

That is the "PTT Sidetone" coming from the radio. It isn't supposed to be transmitted, but sometimes the mic audio path is opened before the sidetone stops playing. It is a beep played by the transmitting radio to let the user know they may proceed to talk. The HT1250 and CDM1250 did this quite a bit.
