To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

What are you talking about? :D
All MDC-1200 squaks sound the same, it's not like GE-Star where they actually sound different. Or are you talking about the sidetones - what the radio user hears when he presses PTT and the radio is sending the MDC?

I must be thinking of something els haha

On another note. For MDC1200 to work on a HT1250 does the radio have to have a display?
Seems i cant get any signalling to work. The signal box is open and i can change stuff but under the conventional tab to select what i want its greyed out.

The radios i have dont have displays so i figured that must be the reason?

I'm a little confused what you're asking. First, you would go to the main menu, select SIGNALLING-->MDC SYSTEM-->MDC SYSTEM 1. There, you will set up the various options for MDC (sidetones, whether you want MDC to sound before, after transmission, or both). After this, go to your "conventional personality" (in other words, the channel you want the MDC tone to sound on), and select the "Signaling" tab. Under this tab, for "Tx System", select "MDC 1". Which part are you talking about that is grayed out?

I can do everything up to the signaling tab under the conventional chan selection to enable the tx on that channel.

Looking so-far, I AM seeing some Tx systems grayed out, however mine are "Receive Only" channels. All of my transmit channels are selectable under the Tx system. You channels aren't Rx Only, by chance, are they?

My model number is AAH25RDC9DU3AN
I only have the 16 conventional channels programed no trunking.
Used CPS R06.07.04

Signaling Config under the General Tab i can only change the auto reset tab, Call Tone Tag both boxes are open to change
MDC System-1 everything is editable

Then under the Conventional pers for every chan no matter if its rx only or not they are all grey out. the RX system and TX system boxes.. cant edit them at all. My guess was i have to have a display on the radio for this to work and mine are the no display units

I don't think the display should have anything to do with it. Display or not, it should be doing the MDC. My software is a little older, but I'll keep looking to see what I can come up with.

Nahhhhh, I got ya', now. HT1250's CAN do the MDC signaling, but the HT1250LS cannot. They also can't do the Sel Call, unless the proper option boards are installed. That's where your problem is.

Not a problem :) Remember, the LS radio's are cheaper than standard HT1250's, but they also have less features, PLUS they will only do 16 conventional channels instead of "128". I have seen the LS's modified to do 128 channels, however, most of the ones you'll encounter will only do 16 channels. At any rate, you still have a great radio, nonetheless.
