• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

what do you mean "basic MDT"? If you're talking about mobile data terminals then you're out of luck! The network that the terminal is linked to is always usually encrypted and therfore you must have a user name and password. not to mention you would need a VRM to facilitate the transmission of information to and from the network.... Its never that easy and is especially illegal if you dont have permission.... BUt to answer your question. Yes, there are a large number of agencies that use MDT's Dallas, Irving, Frisco Etc.

Those are teh computers that officers have that get information about calls from dispatch?

I've wondered how those are linked up.

Just fyi, it is illegal in the state of Texas to monitor MDT traffic. A law was put on the state books several years back due to an individual in Houston grabbing HPD accident dispatches from their MDT system and forwarding them to wrecker drivers via pagers.
