Hey all,

I just got word yesterday that one of Medflight's helicopters crashed while landing at Don Scott OSU Airport. The helicopter was a Eurocopter BK 117 and has the tail number of N117MK.

From what I heard there was 4 people on board and everybody made it out but, I guess the helicopter was destroyed.

I was wondering if anybody can give me more details on what happened. Which helicopter is Medflight 1 flying now ? Is N117MK going to be fixed bacj up or written off ?

Any information will be greatly helpful

wow word travels sllllllloooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww down there. It takes weeks for the news to travel there :)

It went splat for the lack of a better term on the north pad @ OSU they had a few people on an observation flight from OSU hospital.

I guess the helo is a write off, I keep forgetting to ask when I talk to the people there. (Insurance rates for Omniflight will go up) It was the IFR certifed helo

Hello,

Thanks for the info. Not the news I wanted to hear. I liked N117MK and it was a good chopper. That leaves them with no IFR certified helicopter. I wonder if they will be getting another one.

Do you have any ideal which chopper they are using now ? Is it N460H ? A BK 117 Medflight uses for back-up.

I heard about the accident by reading the accident report on the NTSB website. I haven't been over the base here in Wellston to talk to any of the people there. N117MK has been on the pad here at Wellston several times.

FYI....Medflight 3 is currently flying N135WL one of the new Eurocopter EC 135's. They had a couple of bugs to work out on the new bird but, everything is running well now.

Again thanks for the info

WOW, I live a few miles from Don Scott and go there weekly, and I have not heard 'bout this. I remeber seeing 7MK several times, I liked it. If it's true that was their last IFR chopper, they WILL het a new one. If they don't that jeopordizes their business when the weather goes bad.

Hey all,

From the pictures I seen of the helicopter, the damage dos not look that bad. I'm sure they can salvage some stuff off of it. I hope the get another IFR copter soon. They may get one of the new EC 135's so that will be kinda neat.

Yes, 117MK was to me a one of a kind helicopter but, I remember Omniflight bringing a back-up helicopter to the pad in Wellston one time. It looked like 117MK but was painted the gray paint scheme that Omniflight paints their back-up helos. This helicopter had the tail number I think of N117VU. It was a very neat ship. It was in Wellston for a couple of days and them moved somewhere else.

For those reading and don't know, Omniflight Helicopters of Dallas, TX supplies the helicopters, pilots, and mechanics for Medflight.

Have a great day

Hey all,

Anybody know what the tail number is on the Omniflight back-up helicopter Medflight 1 is using.

If anybody can't get a tail number, please advise what the helicopter looks like. I would like to know.

I have been to busy to swing over the base here in town to get any information.

Thank you for your time

Hello all,

Man I hope so................

That would be sweet to see that bird again. I was very nice. If they are not using N117VU , I wonder if they will be using another IFR certified helo.

I'm not sure how many IFR certified helicopters Omniflight operates. I was over to the Wellston base on day and one of the pilots showed me a folder with all the differnt types of helicopters they run.

We were looking at the pages for the BK 117's because I had a couple of old pictures of another helicopter and he was trying to look it up to see where it was located. I have tons and tons of pictures of every helicopter that has been the the Wellston base.

Have a great day

Erie, Pennsylvania Life Star Helo just lost their Agusta A109 and a veteran Pilot in Warren County, PA on the 7th of this month.

Be careful out there.
