Thank you very much!

I wish I had more photos that I could post here, but the ones I did are about it. The MCSO LE operations captain I used to know (and got permission to get the photos from) has since left MCSO and is now a police chief down in California. So I don't have a way of getting access again.

If you like looking at this stuff, you might try visiting the Portland Police Museum if you've never been there. It is located on the 16th floor of the Justice Center in downtown Portland. They have displays and some really cool photos and historical items. They might even still be selling PPB t shirts up there, too.

Last I heard, MCSO doesn't have a museum but if you were to call them up, you might (?) be able to arrange a time to look around at the nifty old law enforcement stuff that they have out at the Hansen Building, located at NE 122nd & Glisan. Having some sort of law enforcement connection would help, too. Last I knew, it was all locked up in a big room and not open to the public, but there is no harm in trying to get permission to see it. It is an awesome collection. I hope they didn't trash it.

The Oregon HIstorical Society is another place you might try if you wanted. There is so much to learn from history... :)

Hi icom1020,

Great stuff! And thanks much for the link. :)

I'll bet those big, old light bars took about 10 mph off the top speed of those cars!

And I think the plane crash was in '78, too. Out at the Hansen Building they have many photos of the crash scene, including all of the fatalities and their names (written in chalk on framed slate boards and held under their faces in close-ups). The photos were all turning very yellow with age... must have been a pretty gruesome thing to see in person. And how in the world does a jet airliner run out of fuel, anyway? Seems nuts, but I know that is what happened...

I think the pilots were put at fault, it was a indicator light that said one of the landing gear was malfunctioning and they decided to dump and burn off nearly all the fuel before emergency landing but made one too many passes until it really was empty..it could of been worse I suppose.
