Memory Write Cycle Limits?

Greetings All,

I have a technical question about the BCD325P2.

I am assuming that the radio is utilizing Flash memory to hold
system programming information.

My understanding of Flash is that there is a finite number of write cycles
before the memory starts to degrade. Is there such a limit on this radio,
and how many write cycles (approximately) before the radio becomes unusable?

The reason for asking, is that I am writing some software to program this
radio. During testing of said software, I have been doing a number of creating
(and deleting) of systems. So far, this has been done several hundred
times. There will probably be another hundred or so writes before the
software is complete.

I want to know if I should be concerned about damaging the unit.

Yes, you should consider that possibility.

The total number of write cycles before failure depends on the exact type of flash memory Uniden used. 10,000 writes will kill some types of flash memory.

Do you know what kind of memory is in this radio? If the limit is 10k, it is probably unlikely I will hit this during my testing (or my lifetime). If it is something lower, I MAY have an issue.

Someone from Uniden will have to answer that, unless you want to open the radio, get the part numbers off the chips, and look up the specs.

Having a computer background going back to the 70's I had the same concerns Rich. I posted the same question a couple months back and everyone that responded told me not to worry about it. They implied I couldn't wear it out these days. Not sure I agree. But I'm sure it's better than it used to be.


This was a serious concern with the several ICOM receivers/scanners.

They implied I couldn't wear it out these days. Not sure I agree. But I'm sure it's better than it used to be.

I'm in computers also - My personal opinion is every storage device has a chance of breaking at some point. I just choose not to worry about it.
