Hi there,
This is Laurie Rich Salerno with the online newspaper Meriden Patch, and we just put out our first article this morning on the Meriden PD's plans to encrypt its radio transmissions and launch a "police to community" website to take its place that makes public all the calls but with a 30-minute delay.
It's too long to paste into this field, but if you want to check it out the article is here:
Meriden Police to Encrypt Scanners, Roll Out Crime Website - Meriden, CT Patch.
I'm wondering what devoted scanner-listeners in Meriden think about the PD's plan and whether you think the website will be an appropriate substitute. (The site has some pretty interesting additional features, like an online arrest blotter, a way to search for incidents around an address, and retains incidents for 72 hours for when you're not listening. But does that make up for 30 minutes and loss of crime details in your eyes? What's most important for your sense of safety?)
If you're in Meriden and have an opinion on this and would like to go on the record in an article on Meriden Patch, shoot me an e-mail at

Thanks!
Laurie
