I recently picked up a MFJ 1728 5/8 wave 2 meter-1/4 wave 6 meter NMO antenna for free but I noticed the whip stinger is now only like 16 inches long.....my question is with the remaining length of whip can I make this usable for a 850 MHz or 940 MHz 5/8 antenna with the remaining length of whip... Basically want to to know of there is a loading coil in there .... The base where the stinger goes into isn't very big so wasn't sure and don't have antenna analyzer to tweak myself for answer... Thanks!!!!

There is a coil in there and its way to much inductance to make a useful 800/900 antenna.

Thanks

Bummer.... Was going to use indoor on filing cabinet since buying a new proper length whip would be impractical indoors..... Any other suggestions since I only have the 16 inch whip to work with?no wonder I got it free hehe
