Anybody ever heard this term used and know what it means?

I have heard them use it on the military use it (Fort Leonard Wood) as well as the Cops in town.

usually it's used like this.

'I will come back around in x mics (or mikes)'
or
'I will be at your 20 in x mics'

don't know how it's spelled for obvious reasons lol.

When used as you describe, it means minutes.

It can also mean microphone (but not as you described) and sometimes the term is used to describe the dispatcher's position or station.

It can be spelled either way when refering to microphones but when referning to minutes it is spelled as "Mike", the generally accepted term for the letter "M".

It is also sometimes used in the military to discribe distance, usually in Meters.

Well, I suppose. (Does that sound faintly like you should be in ND?)

More common usage in the Military would be "clicks"; no?

We use meters for the shorter distances.

For something for a hump(hike) we would use "clicks". Alot of PD's us "mike" for minute. Myself will sometimes say 10-4Tango to somebody, which means "thanks". The people that talk like that are usually the prior military. I even catch myself talking on the cb like that.

Click = Kilometers
Mikes = Meters (or miles if you want to mess with someone)
Mikes = Minutes (based upon use)
Hump = Something you only want if you dont have a 70 pound sack on your back and sand covering 99 percent of your body.

And you can alwasy tell LEO who are either Former or Current Military by the Phonetic Alphebet they use. Had one local guy that used to annoy the dispact probies by mixing and matching the differen ones lol.
