• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have two Midland GXT710 handhelds which have barely even been out of the box but are too old to return.
They both show the TX icon when the PTT button is depressed, but only one receives anything. If I put one on ch4 and the other on ch18, everything works fine. Any ideas? Can the transmit or receive freqs. be tuned internally? If so how? Thanks for any help.

I know this post is old, but I'm just seeing it and see that it has not been answered. FRS-18 and GMRS-4 are the same receive frequency, 462.625, the difference is transmit. A FRS radio operating on channel 18 will be heard by other FRS radios on channel 18 and GMRS radios on channel 4. BUT, a GMRS radio operating on channel 4 will not be heard by FRS radios UNLESS the GMRS radio is transmitting simplex (direct), OR the FRS radio is hearing the GMRS channel 4 repeater. GMRS-4 receives on 462.625, but transmits on 467.625.

This is normal. Your midland radio in gmrs mode is set to operate thru a repeater. Frs radios are not allowed to do this. Your midland radio is designed to transmit on gmrs repeater output channels from ch.15-22. Frs ch. are 1-14 so if your midland unit has the option to use 5mhz. offset for repeater use then channels ABOVE ch.14 will be transmitting on 467.550-467.725mhz.

Not true at all. The model 710 is a typical bubble pack radio with the normal FRS and GMRS simplex frequencies. It has no ability to transmit on any of the GMRS repeater input channels. I suspecft the problem is one radio is set with a CTCSS/DCS tone on receive and the other is CSQ, hence only one radio works when set to the same frequency.
