Crypt MOA has been being used by the Sioux Falls F-16s lately. Otherwise pretty quiet in that MOA. 311.3 active today with the Lobos and a Lincoln, NE KC-135.
Offutt still with their usual activity. Those jets mostly use VHF to talk to ATC, so typically only hear them on 311 talking to command post or when they are practice refueling on AR105 or AR406.

CRYPT looks to be active today with BAT 32, Topcat 33, and Uppset 61 showing in the ADSB Exchange likely practicing AR work.

318.7000 Plainsman, I came across this in a list it was described as contact for the Royal Air Force at Offult AFB, But since they retired the Vulcan Bomber in the 90's. I doubt it is used much.

That one is definitely not in use at Offutt. I've seen that in a list or two as well, in fact it's on airnav.com right now under Offutt. The RAF does have a small presence at the base, but they don't have any of their own flight operations as in the distant past.

LOBOs (F-16s) working with BIGFOOT on 271.0 this evening. Also 352.975 in use.
HUSKER and TOPCAT air refueling on 238.9
B-52s were in the area a bit ago as well, using a UHF AA in the 300-301 range.

At the same time tonight hearing steady data stream for over an hour on 383.5500 FM. I hear it a lot , I assume it’s the EB4 and 6 that are up. But after seeing your BIGFOOT callsign, I wonder. I am down in central Iowa.

There as an E-6 up yesterday evening in the area also, so it was very likely that.

383.550 is a TACAMO frequency, so the data stream makes sense. I get the same hits occasionally here in NW Illinois.

383.5500 is active a lot here. I assume I have a ground entry point somewhere near. The only reason I brought up the BIGFOOT callsign , is the only ID I have for it is that’s its assigned to McChord AFB and involved in surveillance. But since an E6 was up than that’s probably it. Good thread, I need to post or check it more often !

There's a GEP at Offutt (Omaha), so probably the one the E6 was going through.

BIGFOOT is the Western Air Defense Sector callsign, and the F-16s were doing air defense type stuff yesterday. I suspect that there's remote TX/RX sites throughout the country for the air defense stuff and that's who they were talking to.

That explains it-------wasn't even thinking it was a sector callsign. Should have figured it out from your post, tankers and fighters. Kind of a duh moment for me! I need to dedicate a few more radios to mil-air. I usually search 380-400 in FM, and of course 225-400 in AM. I am about 180 miles East of Offutt. I always assumed Omaha had a GEP, I was always curious if there was one closer.

I saw a Gold72 (KC-135R) and SNTRY61 (E-3C) on ADS-B. I use both Planeplotter and Virtual Radar. I like VR because it has a voice option to announce when a plane shows up. Unfortunately neither one of the above plotted on the map so was not announced but I happened to see the silhouette in the list.

Only GEPs I know about is in area southwest of Chicago and down by St. Louis.

That would make sense having GEP around large metro areas, I have never heard or seen just how far apart they are or need to be. If Omaha is my closest, it is loud and clear a lot in my location. I really need to look into some of those programs.

There was someone who used to post to Scaniowa and others. His website had some graphics one of which showed GEPs around the countries. Talking twenty years ago now. I might of have the graphic somewhere. Found it, it is dated from 2000.northstar_gep_system.jpg
