I am getting ready to buy a bc15x for monitoring the F-16's and C-130's that fly low level here in East Tennessee,
Where should i start looking for the frequencies to monitor and does anyone know if these are jets based out of Mcghee Tyson or from NC ???

Thanks

The 134th ARW has a few KC-135Rs based out of KTYS & there are also a few OH-58s based there with the Army National Guard. According to AirNav, I would plug in:
303.250 Soda Can Control
143.800 ANG Ops
149.800 NG Ops
373.900 NG Ops
41.500 (FM) NG Ops

There's also a few AR tracks that overfly Eastern Tenn.

If I were you, I'd post in the Tennessee forum to get some more local answers, i know recently there has been a lot of activitiy with F-22s playing around in that area and I'm sure they can offer some more info as well.

Every once in awhile i see the KC-135's flying south with a aircraft that it is refueling, The F-16's will get your attention when they go over at 2000 feet. I havent seen the F-22 as of yet.

GKolo,

I was going to move the thread to the Military forum but decided to move it here as it is more of a local area question, the local pro's can help you for sure!

Thanks:)

Thanks tonsoffun, I was hoping a moderator would help him find his way.

AR216 & AR633 are mostly what you're seeing.

AR216 Primary: 276.500
AR216 Secondary: 319.700
AR633 Primary: 295.800
AR633 Secondary: 319.700

If you don't already have these plugged in, I would do so, I hear AR216 almost everyday when I'm home. If you do already have them, then here's an opportunity to check your freqs and make sure they've been entered correctly haha.

Good luck!

A quick update on AR-633A/B: The primary is now 240.35 and the secondary is 343.25

Also for the 134h ARW, Airnav has a typo. It's 303.025 rather than .25 Your Raptor traffic (at least the Raptor i hear) is the Lockheed Test flight out of Marrietta, GA (Dobbins ARB). You can find them on Atlanta Ctr freqs and 142.2 for their air to air and air to ground. Most of the F-22's in service avoid TN airspace at all costs. At least they do in my neck of the woods. Never have i heard a Raptor with any of the Memphis Ctr's in my listening range.

If you have multiple F-16's then scan the 138.0-151.0 Mhz range for any possible air to air. Have fun.

The refueling that you are seeing I would say is AR-633 (240.35 Primary). As far as F-16's at 2,000 feet that is a good one. It sounds like you are living under or close to the Snowbird MOA. You could also have a IR or VR low altitude route passing near your QTH. As far as the Snowbird MOA goes I don;t hear too much using it anymore but I am here in north Georgia and I would not hear anything operating at that low of a altitude in the MOA. The best guess I would have is maybe Shaw AFB F-16's entering and exiting the Snowbird MOA via a VR route. Keep us posted to what activity you have up there. Here are some good freqs to start with:

I can tell you from living in Knoxville and knowing people at the 134th ANG base at McGhee Tyson, only the refuelers are coming from there. There are not any F-16s or F-22s based at McGhee Tyson. In preparation for their upcoming deployment, the refuelers have been flying a lot lately around East Tennessee in the Valley, and the Mountains (moreso than usual).

I've done some work up in the mountains in Southeast TN/West NC up near the Ocoees and Reliance this past year, and I've also seen some F-18 flying over as well. I have not seen an F-22 though, only F-16s, F-18s, and refuelers.
