• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Also I know halton region is switching to a Project 25 radio system in 2012. Anyone have any news on that?

Yes. Halton is ready to switch to a new P25 system. They are aiming to have it going in the first part of next year. The aim is to have encryption for some if not eventually all the police comms. The deputy chief did say he understands the publics desire to listen and they may set up something for the public to listen to. The bottom line that the deputy chief said was officer safety. They do not want us listening to their comms and that's that. I suggest anyone who is interested is to speak your police force or city councillor.

Nobody knows.. from what I have read it will be up to each department to decide and purchase their own gear.

So only PD will be encrypted, meaning FD will not be?
I can't say anything for sure. The police want to be encrypted and nowhere did I say anything about any of the other services

I'm picking up pages today on that frequency. Even when they upgrade will this freq still not be in use for dispatches?
