To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi. Just got a minitor 6. Love it so far but should i let the battery discharge almost fully after each use/day then charge it, or charge it every night?

Minitor 6's come standard with lithium ion batteries. Nothing is gonna go bad if you charge it every night. Good battery practice is to let it get low before charging it but with the lithium ion, it's not a necessity.

Can i leave it powered on the charger on selective call for 2 weeks while im out of town?
I wouldn't
Keeping it on and charging will most likely destroy the battery after an extended period of time. 2 continuous weeks might just be enough to make the battery lose all charge.

I think it stops charging once it turns green

I leave one on and in the charger with stored voice and normal scan enabled 24/7. Battery is fine after nearly three years. YMMV

Thats a radio. Im talking about a pager that has a Lithium ion battery. Pagers are i guess meant to stay in the chargers on so that volunteer fire/emts can keep em charged and also hear whats going on. Thats what i just read

Battery is a battery. APX batt was a lithium ion too. It's just common battery practice to not have it on and in the charger because it's using battery power to power the radio/pager and it's receiving a charge from the charger. But at the same time, they don't make battery eliminators for pagers either.

I understand but the charger stops charging once the battery is full. Ive left my minitor 5 when i owned one on 3 days on the charger and it didnt do anything to the battery or pager.

I've had the same pager with the same battery for over 2 years now. It's never been turned off more than a handful of times and it goes on the charger 99% of the time every night. Sometimes it takes 2 minutes to recharge and sometimes it takes 20 depending on its activity in a days time. Of the times it has not gone on the charger, it's lasted up to 3 days on the battery. YMMV
