• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

We have several Minitor VI that appear to have some form of charging or charger issue. When you put the pager into the charging base it will not light indicating charge/ automatically read fully charged / or rapid red flash indicating fault. It is not every time. Occasionally it looks normal at night and blinking fault in the morning or no light comes on but then has a green light in the morning. My various members are getting into low battery mode. Any ideas

I have had the same problem with two of the chargers over the past five years or so. I read a lot about it online somewhere, maybe even here.

As I recall, the plastic of the charger, pager body, and battery casing are each molded by different manufacturers, and slight differences in alignment of the parts are what causes this. The battery latch thing also seems to wiggle more over time, causing the battery contacts to lose touch with the pager body.

Returning things for warranty work has only resulted in the problem being fixed for a short period of time.

The only long-term solution I have come up with is to rotate two batteries, keep one in the charger and one on the pager.

I've had it happen. I'm issued two batteries with the pager, so I just swap batteries now.

We have not seen these problems yet. But, here's some things that I am aware of:

The micro USB power connection at the back of the charger isn't always the best. I have several different cables around here, and there is definitely a variation in how well the cable seats and then stays connected. I've found more than one with the charge lights out because it came loose. Another is very sensitive to motion and even a slight movement of the cable may cause it to flash the charge lights. Make sure your users have a wall wart with a good micro USB on it that fits snugly in to the back of the charger.

While not as much of a dirt magnet as the V was, the contacts on the base of the pager are recessed which can be a holding spot for grease or dust. A regular wipe with a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol may be in order for some them depending on how and where the user carries it.

The pins in the charger should be self wiping when the pager is inserted, but the Q-tip and rubbing alcohol wipe can't hurt.

I've been carrying one since we got them with no issues.

I have the same issues with the pagers for my agency. I have purchased 10 VI's thus far and about half of them have bad USB charger cables. I also have now recently noticed that the programming cradle USB cord is failing.

Luckily, Motorola used a more or less standard USB to micro USB cable for the programmer this time so I have grabbed better ones out of my parts bin for use with both the charger and the programmer. I've also got an old Blackberry wall wort that plugs right into the /\/\ base and that seems to work extremely well.

Also, I am seeing info on another forum that an agency has reported to Motorola that the charging problem may be internal to the VI's and not in the charging base. They submitted enough data to make their case pretty well. We'll see how that plays out. It would not surprise me to see an FSB unrelated to the charger show up in the near future.
