Hey guys... I'm missing (2) Radials (long rod's) from my diamond discone. Will this make a MAJOR difference in my signal? Would it be worth it to have a guy go up there and screw them back in probably for a few hundred bucks!
I'm not qualified to give you a difinitive answer, but, do you have an S-meter on your scanner? If so, have you noticed fewer bars than prior to the problem? From my experience there was a slight loss but not enough to make it worth spending the bucks.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. Actually what radials on a discone or any antenna do is the apex angle determines impedance. Two are a bare minimum, but missing two out of 8 isn't going to hurt it as much as some people might profess to. You can learn about the discone here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discone_antenna
I would have to agree with Clyde, I didnt even know one of my top radials on my discone wasnt on there till I seen it laying in the valley of my roof..............Hoser
I too have had a radial come off and I couldn't tell the difference. Use it that way for a while and see if you can notice any degradation in what you receive.
