I have been noticing that a bunch of my Radio Id's that appear on my Trunk88 screen as showing up with different EMS units these days.

I assume that there has been or always is a turnover of actual ambulances these days and that radios are removed from 'retired' ambulances.
For instance, I dont really hear Halton EMS #3176 anymore or #3189. Both of those units have covered all over Halton (I know that they move them around and use as many KM's as they can) but I dont see them anymore.

Would anyone in the know be able to answer my question?

Thanks

Eric

So you mean a radio you have tagged as "3189" is now identifying verbally as a different number...or you just haven't been hearing "3189" on the air in awhile?

If it is your alias not matching what you hear... I'd imagine they swapped out the radio for whatever reason (maintenance perhaps?) It's fairly trivial for BMR to change the database record when they swap out a radio. It doesn't happen every day, but it's certainly possible it would happen. This is why I /generally/ don't label ambulances or OPP vehicles. Some I'll take a chance with such as supervisor vehicles, command vehicles and the like.

1) Mike: I havent heard a few EMS units lately, I am thinking they might have been retired.

2) I am guessing that a few of the radios have been pulled out of the old units and put into new ones. There have been a few new EMS call signs in Halton added #3200 is fairly new.

Some of the ones I labelled are correct and have stayed the same for a number of years now.

I dont label soft ids to OPP cars I tag them as I.E. RID 32000 5Golf/Whiskey unit or RID 8989- 5 Lima/407 ETR.

I get that too.. London unit 1187 use to be a super busy car and was a ALS unit, Now i hardly hear it at all.. Its now a back up truck at the dundas station, Same with unit 1177 from Nilestown use to be very active and now is also a backup truck. i think once they get to so many km's or after a few months the rotate to another truck and put the other into a backup unit or something like that.. I still see 87 and 77 time to time, but not as much as i use to.

Muxlow: They do rotate EMS units. Where I live in central Burlington it is just part of the endless sprawl that is Toronto so they will use EMS units for the shorter distances in the urban areas then move them up further north into more rural areas. I am just wondering after they retire a EMS unit do they remove the radios, reset them, etc?

There are a few in the know EMS people on here wink.

When an ambulance is retired and replaced with a new vehicle the radio is moved from the old truck to the new one. In some places the old and new vehicles both have the same number or call sign, so you don't need to change your tag. In other places (like Halton) the new vehicle gets a different number from the one it's replacing. Sometimes if two or more ambulances are being replaced with new vehicles with the same numbers the radios end up in different numbered trucks.

I'm guessing the two Halton units you haven't been hearing lately were either changed from frontline units to spares or were spares that were retired.

Hi CM. Thanks for responding. It seems that there have been a few new units. #3200 is new and #3176 and #3195 seems to have been retired.
