To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Long time reader and now a first time poster. Here to draw some knowledge.

Basically, in Australia Motorola Radios are difficult to obtain in the right frequencies in addition to anyone who can re code one. Now I'm looking at the mobile radios available to me on eBay.

I found a Motorola Spectra UHF Hi Power 450-482mhz range bare radio:

Basically, I want to see if it is possible to have it programmed to the frequencies we use in Australia for duplex and simplex functions:

I'll buy a W3 control head to run it and have it in my vehicle. I have the CPS software but no cables.

Yes the radio will cover the freq and offsets. the unit will also do all the analog and digital Privateline codes. The radio programs in 5 khz or 12.5 khz steps.

Cables can be bought or made releivly easilly.

That particular radio is not an Astro unit and therefore won't program with CPS. It needs the old DOS-based RSS and it needs an A9 head (based on that model number) but could possibly be hacked to take an A3 head but, in my opinion, the A3 heads are very limited and hard to service now-a-days.

That Spectra model will use the larger A9 X9000 control head. The radio can be configured for A5, A7 and A4 control heads.

It CAN NOT be configured for a A3 HHCH due to the different control cable interface IN the radio.

Best to look for a x44KMA series radio. (x would be T for remote 'trunk' mount, D for Dash mount)

Also, Spectra radios come in 4 splits or Ranges in UHF, so you need the Range 3 450-486 mHz.
