So I purchased the Diamond SG-7900A-NMO 2/440 antenna with the Diamond K400SNMO lip mount with the PL-259 adapter that comes with it also I purchase the Motorola HKN9557 PL259/Mini-U antenna adapter will this all work together I was told yes by a local Motorola dealer in my area. So I purchase the right items to use it with the XPR 5550?

Also for installation who would you trust to install the mobile radio, power wires, and mount the lip mount by the hood and antenna. The local Motorola installer company in my area said their installer can install all of it for $120 to do it cause of the time it takes. I spoke with the local car audio shops they said they can do it but they don't trust their installers to install this type of commerical/ham radio type of products.

Why would you choose a dual-band antenna for a single band radio? I would go with the Moto shop for the install, also they can cut off the pl259 and install a new mini-UHF this would eliminate the adapter and the pl259. The pl259 with the adapter can cause problems and can break the connecter on the radio if too much stress is applied.

If I decide to purchase another radio for the VHF frequencies. It's going to be a simple install and request the installer to not to put any strain on the antenna coax or the adapter and see what he recommends so no strains. I probably will take it to the Motorola dealer here since they do install like these.
