While loading up my 800 for Rochester, I noticed the "Public Safety" section doesn't actually include any police/fire/ems, and that the freqs that did load say conventional.

Is that correct? Are they still using those channels?

Thanks in advance.

You'll have to be more specific, what "Public Safety" section are you talking about? Or are you referring to the Monroe County Public Safety trunked system?

There's no traditional "public safety" agencies on that system, yet. So far just public works or county services, which technically do work in the interest of public safety.

Anyway, there are no conventional frequencies, it's a trunked system. Are you referring to the fact that the patches to UHF frequencies are noted in the talkgroup descriptions?

I'm referring to the police/fire/ems channels that are labeled "conventional" in the library on the PSR800.

In other words, more simply I suppose, will the 800 scan/pick up what I want to hear, now that I've imported them?

Oh, I see what you're getting at. You're confused by the "Monroe County Public Safety" trunked system not having any Police/Fire/EMS talkgroups, so you want to know if the conventional Police/Fire/EMS frequencies are still valid.

Yes, they are.

Whether or not you'll actually hear them depends on your location, of course.

Yes, valid/work/"scannable"/listenable.

When I saw the public safety system I assumed it included police/fire/ems. I didn't imagine that a metropolitan area such as Rochester wouldn't be on a trunked system yet.

So, since it didn't load that way I had to make sure there wasn't an error of some sort.

Out of curiosity, did you look at the RR database or only what you were seeing in EZ Scan? All of the data is laid out pretty clearly in the database, including the absence of any Police/Fire/EMS talkgroups in the trunked system.

For the record, quite a few major metropolitan areas and cities do not use trunked systems, not as their primary method of communications.

I certainly did, which led me to ask the question.

T'was getting curiouser and curiouser. ;)

As I said, was surprised to see they weren't all trunked up and "800-ized", and wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

Portable Radio Tx/Rx frequencies

Hello all, I have a question. Are the Tx/Rx frequencies the same for Monroe county ny fire and ems? I am in charge of setting up portables but was just thrown into this role and nothing was explained to me. Help would be greatly appreciated!

Most of them are simplex, but call up to Monroe County Public Safety Communications and verify. You could also call the Fire Coordinator's office as well. They'll have the same info.

Hambone123,

Yes, all the Fire and EMS channels in Monroe County are simplex meaning the TX and RX Frequencies are the same. Brighton and Henrietta Fire Departments use a repeater so the TX will be different. Those are the only two in the county that use a repeater. Remember when programming you have to switch everything to 12.5 spacing for narrowband and you have to use the correct DPL/DCS codes.
