Hello fellow scanners. I was just wondering if anyone knows about the following 2 frequencies. 151.100 & 156.060 MHZ. The callsign for these 2 frequencies is WPUB630 and it says these 2 frequencies are assigned to the Montgomery County Sheriff's office. However I did a check of the FCC BANDPLAN and according to that both 151.100 and 156.060 MHZ are listed as Highway Maintenance frequencies and not Police Frequencies. Does anyone have any input reguarding these 2 frequencies and there possible use by the MCSO.

Thank you

Chris

Several years ago the FCC re-farmed frequencies. This was a old highway maintenance frequency, They are now called Public Safety Pool. Any government agency can use about any frequency or combination for anything. Where I live they use the old county highway department repeater as a county fireground. I belong to a Public Safety agency and we use 2 old highway maintenance frequencies for Emergency Management.

Hello. For WPUB630 is has "Eligibility: 90.20 - to operate stations for transmission of communications essential to official activities of the licensee."

In many places where FCC licenses are obtained I've noticed that the Sheriff's Dept. or the County will license every freq. used by the county, or sometimes every city such as Orange County, Monterey County, and Cal. State Long Beach to name a few in California. Maybe they are doing something similar in Montgomery County?

Police agencies often use local government frequencies as "tactical" or reserve channels. The dispatchers sometimes have the ability to talk directly to the highway base or supervisor for immediate notification of requests for salting or plowing from police officers.

Just because they are licensed to the Sheriff's Office, does not necessarily mean it is used by the Sheriff's Office as a law enforcement frequency. Most upstate dispatch centers fall under their respective Sheriffs Office, take a look at the Warren County and Saratoga County both Communications Centers are run and staffed by sheriffs office members and most of their frequencies are licenced to the SO. Similarly in Washington County communications is run and staffed by the Department of Public Safety, and like wise ALL frequencies that are used by any county entity are licensed under the DPS as the license holder. It makes for better record keeping and license tracking to have them under one central office.
