I have a couple of Lists (banks) of frequencies for media in my area and they are, for the most part, silent. I used to listen to remote broadcasts, traffic choppers, and ENG teams quite often. And, years ago, these were some of the go-to banks on my scanners when something big was happening. Lots of great info. I was told that the majority of the networks went to DMR, but not having much luck there, either. I have been using the Monix frequency listings. Any suggestions? Thanks!

The tv stations whio wdtn wkef most likely are using cell phones. Your best bet would be friday night saturday night school football and basketball games. Sometimes some of the radio stations would do a remote broadcast from a local bar nightclub. Im not sure if they still do. Im sure you know the areas to check. 450-451, 455-456, 166.250, 161.6-161.8 area, 153.290, 170.150. also on friday saturday nights watch the fm am band for media broadcasting games. Then you may want to do some searching then. Maybe someone else closer to the dayton area who has done some media monitoring can give more updated info for the dayton area.

Thanks for the reply...yes, I know what bands they operate on (or used to) and I have all of the frequencies from the Monix listing programmed into a Favorites List. Someone recently informed me that the majority of radio users in the media went to DMR. Cell phones would make more sense - fairly reliable coms and quick to navigate, and certainly private. I will keep on monitoring with one scanner and searching with another and see what happens. Thanks again!

During morning and evening rush is also a good time to try searching; if there is a remote link from the traffic and/or weather folks at the tv stations to the local radio stations they serve, they would be active then.

Yup, I have been searching for traffic chopper broadcasts between 7-9am without success. I am going to do some more research and some tweaking and give it a go again this next week. Thanks, Tom!

Don't think that there are any air traffic reports in Dayton area right now. If I'm wrong please let me know. WHIO seems to be the group with the most resources (money) and they seem to be using ground traffic reporters and traffic cameras, airborne is very expensive.

That makes sense. Technology may be a good thing, but sometimes not so much in our hobby. I do miss the good ol days....

That is correct there are no air traffic reports in the Dayton area.

I believe the only news chopper left in Cincinnati is WCPO-TV Channel 9 and it does not fly everyday.

I believe the only chopper left in Columbus is WBNS-TV Channel 10 ("Chopper 10") and I would not be at all surprised to see it go the way of the dodo in the next few years. They already have a drone (which is naturally called "Drone 10") which is lots cheaper and can be controlled by a dude on the ground, getting in closer than the chopper can.

I'll just be waiting, however, for the day when a SWAT guy with a shotgun gets ticked off about the drone hovering nearby and undertakes a little informal skeet practice.
