This one takes the cake... I received this email this morning:

Please refund my $25 donation made today. I am not satisfied with the amount of information available based on this donation. I will wait 24 hours until receipt before
I will dispute all charges with my credit card company.

What it actually says is..."I made a donation so I could access all of the information available on this site. I then downloaded all of the info I could to my Win9X. and/or ARC Programs and now I want to make it look like I am disatisfied so i can get my money back...also, I could have done this for $5.00 but I was too stupid to realize that."

RR is more than worth a $25 donation...

In the immortal words of Ace Ventura..."Lahoo-Za-her!!"

You have got to be kidding me. If we didn't have RR.com lots of new scanner owners would be scratching their heads. Lindsey this knucklehead doesn't stand for me and the other financial contributors. RR is a great service and deserves support, not stupidity!

I think you would win with the credit card company. A donation is simply that, a donation, with nothing guaranteed in return. I'd fight it!

What a Maroon!

The amount of info here is simply amazing, and it's only going to get better.

Lindsay, I just want to give you, your DB administrators, and your forum moderators a big double thumbs up for all that you do.

I'm here a lot
Re - the e-mail :
Oh boy !
The information is free. Most people donate to help keep the site running and love the added features that being a donating member enables you to receive.

Think twice buddy ! You'll see how valuable this site truly is !

Hi Lindsay:
What did he download? What is his user name? How long was he a member? I say keep his donation, made freely and without coersion... and if he continues his complaining file theft of intellectual property charges against him and let him make the trip to the Republic of Texas soas to answer the charges against him.... does this person have a website, perchance?

$25 donation not worth it?!?! What kind of wacky tobaccy is this cat smokin?!?! I would have donated more than I did if I was able to.

IMHO, if you use any of the WINxx or ARCxxx software programs with the export function, the donation to RR is priceless.

And like others have said, don't refund this twit squat! A donation is a donation!

IDIOT!!!

Here was my response to this individual:

"Donations" are not refundable... a donation is just that, a donation. Would you donate 25 dollars to the United Way and then ask for a refund? I don't think so.

Go ahead and file your dispute....

Just when I think I've seen it all, you come along..... unbelievable.

Lindsay

...and his response...

Let's not jump to conclusions. The reason for making a donation to your site was to have access to your radio reference database. I have created an account which is not showing the donation was made, therefore it is not working. So, please either fix this or refund my money. Please don't compare this donation to other fine organizations such as United Way, of which I contribute to on an annual basis. It is clear that you charge this 'donation' simply so you can operate as a not for profit for tax purposes. Again, I made your donation for a product access, please make sure it works or simply refund my money like any other company offeing a paid service would.

...and my subsequent reply

Stephen,

Let's make a few things clear.

First, access to all the data in the radioreference.com database is free to any user, with or without an user account. If you took the time to look through the site and review what is available - you would know this. Access to the radioreference.com database through web access does not require a donation, nor does it require a user account.

Second, your account was updated to reflect your donating status.

Third, the purpose of donations is to provide some "value added features" to individuals who feel that this site makes a successful contribution - this includes some additional reporting functions, access to the database through a Web service for software applications that auto-program scanners, and personalization functions. Again, all the data is available for free via the web.

So in summary Stephen, if you would have take the time to look through the database to see what was available, you could have made your decision whether or not to contribute a small set of $$ to keep this web site running -- and if you wanted the value added features that we provide to those folks who donate, then you could (did) make your choice.. We are not a "not for profit" organization for tax purposes, and there are SIGNIFICANT financial resources on the back end that keep this site running and operating so that we can provide a FREE set of great services to folks just like yourself.

Stephen, your account is upgraded (fixed), everything is ready to go.... enjoy the site, and thanks for your support.

That guy was a true jackass. I just wanted to echo what everyone else has already said.

Lindsay, I am sure I can speak for almost, if not all, of the active members here when I say that we all really appreciate all of the time and effort you put into this web site. I think that this is the best radio/scanner reference web site on the planet, and that it will be for a very long time.

Thanks a million ten times over for all that you do, Mr. Blanton.

Happy New Year, my friend.

I agree, with bwillcox 100% ;) I have been a member of this site for 4 years now and log one every day of the year. Cripes I spend hours at a time just playing around with my Win 96/97 program's using the Web Import feature.

Thanks again Lindsay, Oh and be sure to have a few cool ones with that little donation, you deserve it.

Other than a few PDF-formated reports, I've made very little use of the added-value features available to donating members. However, I've made several donations to the site, based on the fact that it's a freaking good website. I'm constantly referring people that pop up on other scanner-related websites asking for frequency information to this site. I wonder if this guy asks the waitresses to return the tips he leaves, assuming he leaves any in the first place!

Lindsay: Nil Illegitimi Carborundum!
And keep up the good work!

I didn't make a donation, but I, too, want his money back. You can send it to me, and I will forward it on to him.
