ELYRIA, Ohio -- Four area fire departments were awarded more than $4 million in grants from the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Sen. George Voinvich announced this week.

The biggest recipient is the Elyria Fire Department, which will get more than $3.7 million. The Cleveland Heights Fire Department will get $458,000, University Heights will get $77,000 and Wooster will get nearly $22,000, according to a news release from Voinovich's office.

Statewide, 23 fire departments will get money, including Cincinnati's, which will receive nearly $7 million.
