Question. I am sitting here looking at my Arc XT loader on the Radio Ref freqs. I am trying to load Missouri Hwy patrol. Jackson County, Troop A + any inter-departmental stuff.
Thing is there are 80 sites for MOSWIN.
Do I need to load all of these to load Troop A?
I see them broken down by area, but Troop A HQ is in Lee's Summit.
That is on not on the list.
Nor is anything else near there.
Can anyone shine a little light on this one?
Thanks
Alex

I also might add that I am not totally secure in my knowledge of Sites vs TalkGroups and how that relates. I am thinking a Talk Group is a subset of a site and you must have the site programmed to get the TG. Or am plumbatf%*kcrazy?
Thanks

Re:

Is this something we are going to have to worry about for a while? I thought they had started in the Bootheel area and were working there way throughout the state, but it was going to take quite sometime. I still monitor Troop A on the 42.00's freqs.

Maybe someone can shed some light on the start date for Troop A?

To get Troop A you just need the sites in Troop A, not all 80. It's usually easiest to program the site(s) nearest you. I pick up the Lawson Site and hear occasional Troop A Dispatch talking to officers. What type of scanner do you have? I use a Uniden BCD996T and 396XT and all I program are the Control Channels, (listed in red in the database) and the Alternate Control Channels (listed in blue in the database). The scanner will do the rest.

It sounds like to me your best bet would be the Massman or Lawson Site depending where you're at in Jackson County. If an officer is affiliated with that particular site you'll hear everything on it. Chances are there will always be an officer affiliated with that either of those sites. The Talkgroups are kinda subset. Once you program the site frequencies, you'll have to program the TGs. Most scanners have an "Open" or ID Scan way to listen to all TGs used on that site(s). Depending on the scanner you have, I'll be able to help you with programming questions. Any other questions feel free to ask, I'll try to explain anything as best as I can.

If you look at the MOSWIN 2012 forum, kb0nhx posted the intended switchover for Troop A is scheduled for June 19.

I am using a 396xt and Arx-Xt Pro software.
I appreciate the input.
I will try the Massman and Lawson.
I am in Lee's Summit Mo.
Once again, appreciate the input.

Do you understand the programming? It's not easy I know, but it's not bad. I've been using Freescan software.

Programming

I am learning.
I downloaded a thousand page programmers manual that is beyond me.
But for basic stuff I can go to RR and import what I am trying to do.
I just started custom band scanning and using the Close Call option.
I am learning more each time.
I could NOT program my scanner if I didnt have software interface.
Aside from manual conventional freqs.
I am looking for a video or book.
Am thinking about learning it and posting a you tube video.
Thanks

Which one?

Would the Uniden 996xt or the Uniden Home Patrol be a better choice to monitor MOSWIN? Or would both be equally capable?

I can help you if you need it with MOSWIN. Kinda walk through the steps in programming a site.

I would use the 996XT, but either would be fine I'm sure. I'm unfamiliar with the Home Patrol, so not sure of all the bells and whistles.

Go ahead and throw in the Aullville site 170.600. That site is a power house.

To program the Massman Site by hand do this:

Start by pressing "Menu",
Then hit "Program New System" by pressing "E/yes"
When it says select system, choose "New" then hit "E/yes"
When it says select system type, choose "P25" then hit "E/yes"
Select "Standard Trunk", then hit "E/yes" and again to confirm,
Then you can edit the name, I did MOSWIN, just to make it easy when looking under all the systems. This can take a lil while, it goes from A-Z, a-z, 0-9, and other characters.

To input the site go to "Program System" again, choose what you labeled it as, then hit "E/yes"
Select "Edit Site", then "E/yes"
Select "New Site", then "E/yes"
Then input the control channel frequencies, which are 154.935 and 170.5125.
Then you can edit the name of the site, which I did as simply Massman.

The scanner should be set for ID Search if not I'll tell you how to program TGs. I keep mine in search for now just to hear anyone that would be using it. The TG for Troop A Dispatch 1 is 20005. There are many ways to make the scanner unique to your needs. I have mine programmed for the whole state of MO separated by System Quick Keys (SQK). I also have out of state areas in case I'm out and about in any of these areas. The scanner is great! I've never used Arc software, so I don't know how well it works.

This website is quite interesting and easier to follow than your manual. http://marksscanners.com/396XT/396xt.shtml I used some of the ways he broke it down, just worded differently.
