I am trying to set up my BCD396T scanner with a Mot. system. I would like to know where to go and find witch system is the correct one. There is 7 different mot. systems out there correct. I live in boone county, IL. For the state of IL it say project 25 phase I.
Also when I set this system up I know I need to enter the primary control channel, but do I need to enter all the alternate control channels.

I'm not familiar with the Illinois Starcom system. as for the control channels and alternates, usually you can just put in the control channel, but some agencies rotate their control channels to the alternate ones, so if you want to put them all in just in case the agencies where you are might rotate them. As for bearcats I am not familiar with those but if you scanner can be set to P25 Auto that is what I would set it to. My Pro 106 has P25 Manual and P25 Auto.

Also check the Illinois forum and Uniden forum where your questions can be answered by people with the same scanner as yours and have a good knowledge of it.

I would highly recommend you enter all control channels, primary and alternates, for the reason cited by Oslo. If they switch to one you didn't enter, then you will be out of luck. So best to put all the designated control channels in. As far as the actual mode, I would check in the Illinois forum for some feedback on that just to make certain. I am not familiar with the choices in the 396T (but I think P25 Auto would be correct in your Pro-106). If you haven't done so, I recommend you take a look at the easier to read manual for the BCD396T: Easier to Read BCD396T/UBCD396T Digital Scanner Manual

As you mentioned your Pro-106 has P25 manual and P25 auto. From the easier to read manual for that model, it describes those as:

P25 MANUAL - for Project 25 systems where it is necessary to manually set the channel table information or if you wish to use the default 800 MHz table data.
P25 AUTO
- for most Project 25 systems that send channel table information over the system control channel.
