• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So here is my issue,

I have a Motorola xtl 2500 that i picked up in my travels but the power plug that is soldered to the PCB is in rough shape. Would anyone happen to know what or where this part could be sourced from? Attached is a picture of the plug after it was "fixed" the side that the wires are coming out of once had the standard 2 pin power and groud plug.

Any help you be great. Thank you

Per the detailed service manual, here is the part:

Item Number. 0905902V07 - CONNECTOR DC - $12.17

The plug reference on the board is J0950.

Now go give whoever soldered the wires directly to the plug a serious beat-down.

Wow, that got totally "redneck engineer'd".

I suspect I have a few of those connectors that I've salvaged laying in a box somewhere. If I find one this weekend, I'll let you know.

You can sometimes find them on e-Bay. You could also pick up a "parts" radio and salvage it. They are common amongst the Motorola radios.

Rescue161, is this detailed service manual floating around here somewhere or is it something you got from a Motorola shop?

Mmckenna, if you find one that would be great if not I'll keep searching eBay and what not. Just trying to avoid going to the local Motorola shop.

Thank you for your help!

I honestly keep a digital copy of it myself. I don't like breaking it out though since its in 5 parts. I tend to just use the BSM if I can.

BSM meaning basic service manual?
I took a look at the main power board and it looks like there is a SMD resistor by the antenna jack that looks to be blowen (no contenuity throught it) any ideas as to if it is in fact a resistor or somthin else. It is the only component by the antenna port. Thoughts?

Which side of the board? Is it labeled?

When you pull the cover off its under the board so i would guess bottom? There is not tag or number on it. There os a few other components that look the same and come up with 2.2 ohms. Obviously this is checking the still soldered to the board so who knows. It has little red dots on it.

R5713 - 3.3K - Is the larger resistor farther away from the antenna connector.
R5710 - 75K - Is the one closest to the antenna connector. It's also very small.

Both resistors have one side connected to the the center conductor of the antenna and the other side of each is connected to ground.

Are these two what you are seeing?

Disclaimer:
This is for the UHF Range 1. Depending on the range of your radio, these values and/or components may be different.

This is from the service manual and shows it as an inductor on the VHF board.

L3737 2462587N69 CHIP IND 1200 NH 5%

Somehow I missed that this was a VHF and assumed that it was 800 MHz. Sorry about my misunderstanding. Don't know how I missed it. You should be able to locate that part now, but there is probably nothing wrong with it.
