• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Looking to do an install on a command vehicle and just trying to figure out if its possible. Can you install a 03 HHCH and a 05 head on the same radio? I would think you can, but wanna ask before I pull the trigger and order them. The 03 head is gonna go in the front for the Chief, and the 05 head in the back for use as the command vehicle.

No.
For Dash Mount or Remote Mount only.

03 does not work as Multiple CH or Motorcycle apps

Thanks. My bad, I didn't realize the 0 vs O. I was planning on some XTL5000's due to budget issues. My goal was to do a O3 head in the front due to the siren package being on a remote as well. And then in the back at the command box, have the second head with another stand alone dash mount. No worries, I just couldn't find any information if you could do it or not.

Not in that configuration. You could do it with a W9 and W3 though on the old TIBs as long as the W3 was plugged into accessory 2 on the TIB but I don't believe it was ever actually sold that way (someone found out it just kind of worked).

You can do dual O5's though but I've only ever seen it done on HP bricks.

I've seen it done on low power XTL2500'S. Platoon Chief vehicles have a front and rear head in their vehicles. When onscene, they have a full incident command setup that rolls out of the back of the truck.

Thanks for all the help. Were just going to go back to the original plan of a dual head setup. Just thought it would look slick if from the drivers seat all we would have is HHCH's, two being the radio, one being a siren controller. Just gonna have the mics coming out of the center console instead now like we've done in the past. We found out we save a ton of money on trade in a few years down the road by getting a vehicle with a center console so I was just exploring a possible option.

Thats how we do them as well, and what were buying now. Just adding chiefs trucks to the fleet. It works out great. Same thing with our ambulances, dual head XTL2500's, one in the rear for the medic, one at the driver, no need for two radios! The final setup is gonna be a head of the XTL2500, a XPR (due to an agency we work with using TRBO) in the center console, and in the rear command box, another head to the XTL2500, and a dash mount XTL2500. Works great for us now.
